Robby Gordon is Racing for Special Olympics and Cingular Wireless at Sears Point Raceway

WELCOME, N.C. (June 17, 2002) — Cingular Wireless Chevrolet driver Robby Gordon has more incentive than ever before to win this weekend at Sears Point Raceway.

Cingular Wireless is racing toward its four-year goal of raising $40 million for Special Olympics. As part of its "Winning for Special Olympics in 2002" partnership, Cingular Wireless will donate $100,000 to Special Olympics if Robby Gordon wins the Dodge/Save Mart 350. Twenty Special Olympics athletes will be the special guests of Cingular Wireless and Robby Gordon to watch the road course specialist take another shot at winning after his second-place finish there last year.

In addition to the $100,000 pledge for a Gordon win, Cingular Wireless will donate to the Special Olympics $100 for each lap he leads and $50 for each lap he completes in the 112-lap event Sunday at Sears Point Raceway. Beginning this weekend, the No. 31 Richard Childress Racing (RCR) Chevrolet Monte Carlo will also carry the Special Olympics USA decal for the remainder of the 2002 season.

"I’m really excited that Cingular has teamed up with Special Olympics this weekend at Sears Point and for the rest of the year," Gordon said. "From one athlete to another, I know how much preparation the Special Olympics athletes put into every event they participate in and how much they love competing. I want to take the Cingular Wireless Chevy to Victory Lane, take the Special Olympics athletes with me and have a nice check to hand them when it’s all finished."

Cingular Wireless, the National Partner of Special Olympics, Inc., and the exclusive telecommunications sponsor of Special Olympics TEAM USA, is in the third year of its support for Special Olympics U.S. Programs. In addition, Cingular Wireless launched a 60-day promotional drive on June 1, 2002, to collect donations on behalf of Special Olympics. Those who donate $20 to Special Olympics at a Cingular Wireless retail store are eligible for a FREE wireless handset or a $50 mail-in rebate.

"Anyone who has watched a Special Olympics competition understands and appreciates how much the training, events and activities mean to these extraordinary athletes," said Stephen Carter, President and CEO, Cingular Wireless. "We’re extremely excited to demonstrate Cingular’s support of Special Olympics by showcasing the Special Olympics logo on the No. 31 Cingular Wireless Chevrolet for the remainder of the season. And, our industry-leading promotional offerings will help to ensure we’re doing all we can to assist Special Olympics achieve its goals and fulfill its mission."

"Cingular’s support will be directly responsible for enabling us to reach thousands of athletes would otherwise never have experienced the joy of the Special Olympics movement," said Timothy Shriver, President and CEO, Special Olympics. "This year we are thrilled with the addition of many new markets — bringing the total number of participating Special Olympics Programs to 35. Now, even more Special Olympics athletes, families, friends and volunteers will benefit from the commitment of Cingular Wireless and Special Olympics Program staff."

The nationwide effort spearheaded by Cingular is the largest sponsorship in Special Olympics history. Fundraising efforts by Cingular support year-round training and competition for Special Olympics athletes, as well as send Special Olympics Team USA athletes to the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Ireland.
