Atlanta
Motor Speedway – 1.540 mile oval
Starting
position – 41st
Lap
Time – 29.458 seconds
Avg.
Speed – 188.200mph
The
woes continue for Robby Gordon and Morgan-McClure Motorsports.
Gordon’s qualifying time Friday of 29.458 seconds was 39th-best
of the 46 cars attempting to qualify. As a result, Gordon will
start Sunday’s Cracker Barrel 500 from Atlanta using a provisional
and from the 41st position.
In
morning practice, Gordon had a fast lap of 29.406 seconds, a tick
faster than that of his qualifying time. His car was visibly loose
coming off the corners, especially in turn four where the Kodak
Chevrolet twitched and danced as it tried to exit for the dash
to start/finish.
The
good news for Gordon is that he will have the opportunity to race
Sunday despite the poor qualifying. The team will also have today’s
newly extended happy hour format of one and a half hours to work
on making the car better in the long haul. Happy 90, as we’ll
now call it, begins at 10:30am (est).
Robby
Gordon –
"Not
sure what to say, I just can’t get any power down," said
a frustrated Gordon following his qualifying run.
"I get so loose coming off the turns that I just can’t let
this car do what it can really do on the straights. The qualifying
laps felt pretty much the same as practice. We need to sort something
out there for the race if we’re going to be in the game Sunday."
