Robby Gordon and the No. 31 Cingular Wireless
team are testing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Monday and Tuesday
in preparation for the August running of the Brickyard 400. Gordon
posted the eighth-fastest lap time in one of his two race cars Monday.
Following are his thoughts on the test session …
"It’s not like the Cingular Wireless team
is testing here to light the world on fire with speed. We’re more
concerned with how our car performs in race trim because that will
be the most important thing when we come back here next month. We
think we got some pretty good race runs in the bag Monday. We did
a couple of long runs Monday in the heat of day, which was the type
of weather we’re going to race in here for the Brickyard. Now it’s
very cloudy and cooler this morning and we’re not going to race
in conditions like this in August. It’s going to be 100 degrees
here in another month. So, I’m not sure how much we will learn at
Indy today.
"The guys at Richard Childress Racing have
advanced our cars and our program throughout the season and we want
to make sure we’re advancing in the right direction. We’re testing
a car here this week that we raced three months ago and it’s so
much better than it was before. We should be good when we come back
here for the race."
