Robby Gordon’s Quotes on California

What are your thoughts heading into the Sony HD 500 at your home track, California Speedway?
“I’m glad to be heading home this weekend and looking forward to rebounding from our bad luck last weekend in Bristol. Our intermediate program is exponentially better and continues get better. We have notes that reach back a year, but every time we visit a track we gain that experience too. We had some fuel-mileage issues in our last race at Fontana, but we know why now and we should be able to post a solid finish and move closer to our goal (top 20 in points).”

You had an impressive run in the No. 88 NAVY Chevy at Michigan. Can we expect another strong showing this weekend?
“That was a lot of fun. We couldn’t have planned that any better. Racing against Dale Jr. (Earnhardt, owner of the No. 88 NAVY Chevy) and Carl (Edwards) for the win was great. I can understand their struggles as a new team, but they’ve made some strides in the right direction and that’s why we were able to be competitive there at the end. The team seems to gel very well and it shouldn’t be long before they win. This is my last run in Junior’s car and hopefully we’ll take care of that for them.”

WSOP Fast Facts:

  • Welcome Aboard – In conjunction with Harrah’s Entertainment Inc., the No. 7 Chevy will be adorned with the World Series of Poker (WSOP) scheme for the first time in the 2006 NASCAR Nextel Cup season. The No. 7 will have the WSOP brand in two more races this year. In addition to the Sony HD 500, Harrah’s will display the World Series of Poker scheme at the Banquet 400 (Oct. 1 at Kansas Speedway) and the UAW-Ford 500 (Oct. 8 at Talladega Superspeedway). Visit worldseriesofpoker.com for more information. Jim Beam, Menards and CarLoan.com will serve as associates.
  • Chassis – Robby Gordon Motorsports will be running Chassis No. 104 at this weekend’s event. Chassis No. 104 recently brought home a 12th-place finish for Gordon at two-mile oval of Michigan International Speedway. Chassis No. 106 will serve as back up.
  • Points Position – Coming off a disappointing 27th-place finish in last weekend’s Sharpie 500, Gordon and the No. 7 WSOP Chevy held the 24th position, only 124 points out of 23rd and 203 points out of 20th, which remains the team’s goal.
  • Meet the Driver – Gordon will sign autographs and visit with fans at the Robby Gordon Motorsports merchandise trailer on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 1:45 p.m.
  • Hear It – Got a scanner? Tune it to 469.4500 or 463.6500 to hear Robby Gordon Motorsports team communications during the race.
  • Giving Back – Jim Beam and Robby Gordon will donate $20,000 to Cal State Fullerton in support of the Beam Global Drink Smart program.
