Daytona – July 1, 2000

Daytona Beach, FL – In the second of three Universal promotional schemes, this one for the release of Rocky & Bullwinkle, Team Gordon had its share of drama at the Pepsi 400 in Daytona. Friday qualifying showed Gordon at the bottom of the speed charts. After exhausting all possibilities with the car, the team borrowed Rusty Wallace’s backup engine for second round qualifying. The switch gained a second in time immediately but Gordon fell short for his third DNQ of the season.
