Daytona
500 Practice – 2/9/01
Time
– 49.347
Position
– 1
Robby
Gordon and his #4 Kodak Chevrolet topped the time charts in both
sessions today as practice opened for the Daytona 500. Gordon’s
time of 49.347 was a hair better than that
of the #15 and #11 cars, but those cars times were believed to
be from a draft.
Robby
Gordon quotes:
"Believe
me, I’m excited about this," Gordon said. "We’re fast
and there are no two ways about that. We ran on new tires, old
tires – still fast. In that respect it’s fantastic. And there
probably weren’t a lot of people outside our team expecting that.
But you know what? That’s fine. I just don’t want to get too excited
about this until we back it up with a good qualifying run.”
"Larry
(McClure) and the guys really did their homework coming into this
race. We weren’t the fastest car at the Daytona test and I think
that made them mad. They went back and figured it out. These guys
know how to make beans."
"And
for me," Robby laughed. "Well, I guess I remembered
how to drive this place! I’m kidding – this place is really all
car right now. So the Kodak guys deserve a lot of credit. I just
put my foot through the floor and turn the wheel a few degrees."
