For
starters, I’m not really qualified to write anything about the death
of Dale Earnhardt. I’ve been involved with the NASCAR community
for little over a year, and given that, what do I really I know?
Everyday, however, I learn something new about NASCAR. So instead
of giving any type of opinion on what happened, I’m simply going
to relay my brief exposure to “The Intimidator.” He’s a figure like
I’ve never seen, and while I knew he was an icon of the sport, I
had no idea just how big of an icon he really was.

The
Twin 125’s started innocently enough for Robby Gordon from the 10th
position. He played a patient game early, sticking with the high
line and resisting the urge to step out and make moves. At that
point the high line and low line hadn’t really played themselves
out. But as the race progressed past the halfway point, Gordon showed
his colors and let the field know that his Kodak Chevy was a contender.
He ran as high as 3rd with only ten laps to go following a fantastic
charge to the front after a restart.

Seven
hours and some change to Daytona by car. That’s
what many of the Winston Cup folks based in Charlotte were faced
with on Wednesday.
NASCAR
media day was Thursday. All Winston Cup drivers were obligated to
attend and face the cameras with their new uniforms, and for some
like Robby, their new teams. And while most probably left early
in the day Wednesday, Robby Gordon was running a little late. As
a result, so were his passengers. Not to worry though, this shouldn’t
be a surprise and it surely wasn’t to me. But it wasn’t a big deal
either, we knew it was going to be a midnight run regardless – what’s
another hour or two?

When
Robby Gordon joined Morgan-McClure Motorsports last year on a chilly
day in November at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, it was a step towards
success for both driver and team. In return for the five-year commitment
Kodak and Morgan-McClure have given the 32-year old California native,
Gordon brings with him a relentless desire to stand on the gas,
and most importantly, win races.
